4-Days Desert Trip from Fes to Marrakech on the Map

Itinerary

Day1: Fes - Ifrane - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in Fes, your expert private driver/guide will pick you up from your accommodation before heading to the Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi while exploring the highlights en route. Stretch your legs or have a drink in the charming town of Ifrane, which is called the Switzerland Moroccan version city of Morocco thanks to the Alpian style of architecture.

Have another stop in the cedar forest of the Middle-Atlas that hosts a colony of endangered Barbary Macaques, which you can appraoch and even feed. After having lunch near Midelt, we will resume our journey crossing the high-Atlas Mountains, then take pictures in the panoramic valley of Ziz before getting to the Merzouga desert through Erfoud.

Upon arrival in the desert, the hotel/Riad staff members will welcome you with mint tea and pastries as a Moroccan ritual. Later, you will have a delicious meal for dinner by the pool or in the restaurant while absorbing the prevaling tranquility and beauty.

Day2: Explore the Desert Area & Camel Trek

Today, we will devote our first half-day exploring the desert area and its most interesting landmarks starting with the local “Khettaras”, which is a sophisticated system of irrigation consisting of conveying water from long distances to the oasis by digging wells and interconnect them with underground channels. Cross the village of Merzouga to Khamia, which is inhabited by people from the Sub-Sahara lands brought slaves and known for the Gnawa Music they perform to visitors.

We will, then, have a complete circuit around the majestic sand dune field of Erg Chebbi that offers picturesque views. visit a nomad family that lives in a family learning about their unique style of life before getting back to our Riad/hotel by the sand dunes to get ready for our camel ride experience.

Enjoy the breathtaking view of the sunset before getting to our luxury desert camp. We will serve you dinner under the stars or inside our tented restaurant while enjoying the unique ambience.

Day3: Merzouga Desert - Erfoud - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley

Wake up in the early morning and climb up the sand dune from where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the sunrise. Return back to the camp and have breakfast before getting prepared for resuming our journey further west to the Dades Valley. En route, we will include a visit to a local fossil factory, then stretch our legs in the impressive Todra Gorge. This canyon has been attracting mountain climbers and adventure seekers from all over the world.

Later, we will continue on the track to our final destination of the day, which is the lush valley of Dades where we will spend a peaceful night in a comfortable hotel/Riad.

Day4: Dades Valley - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in the Dades Valley, we will resume our journey to Marrakech driving the valley of Roses where we may include a short break to learn about their products. Cross the city of Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) with its Atlas Film Studios that has turned the region into one of the most prefered setting among film producers in the world.

Have a guided walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou village that is comprised of numerous Kasbahs (fortresses) with four towers, small windows and doors. It has a strategic postion in the former caravan route that used to connect Marrakech with the Sahara desert and the Ati-Atlas Mountains.

We will then drive through the spectacular high-Atlas Mountains before reaching Marrakech in the evening marking the end of our 3-days Sahara desert tour from Fes to Marrakech.
