5-Days Desert Tour from Chefchaouen to Marrakech on the Map

Itinerary

Day1: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes

After having breakfast in your Riad/hotel in the blue-city of Chefchaouen, we will head to Fes driving through the spectacular Rif Mountains before getting into the archaelogical site of the Roman Ruins of Volubilis. Have a guided walking tour while learning about the Roman civilisation that took place in north of Africa. Continue on the track to the charming city of Meknes.

Meknes was founded by the Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century who turned it into one of the most beautiful cities in the world to the extent that it took the name of “Moroccan Versailles”. Start our tour from the Bab (Gate) Mansour, then drive through the walls of the Royal Palace leading us to the Granaries & stables. It’s in here the Sultan used to look after his 12000 horses and store grains.

In the late afternoon, we will drive to Fes through the highway.

Day2: Explore Fes - Ifrane - Midelt

Today, we will spend the first half-day exploring the most interesting attractions of Fes with a local tour guide who knows the Medina intimately. First, we will drive uphill from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Fes el-Bali (Oldest Fes) while learning about its history. Fes el-Bali is listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and is the largest urban car-free district in the world.

Take pictures by the golden gates of the Royal Palace, then meander around the Mellah (former Jewish Quarter) where you can learn about the rich history of the Jewish Community that settled in Fes. Now, you will get into the heart of the mysterious Medina with its bustling cafesn intricate streets, and vibrant Souks. Pass-by the university of Quarawyyine, visit the Chouara Tanneries, explore the Souks, and much more.

In the afternoon, we will drive south crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains through the charming city of Ifrane.

Day3: Midelt - Ziz Valley - Desert Camel Trek

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in Midelt, we will resume our journey down to the Sahara Desert of Erg Chebbi. Have a nice drive through the spectacular high-Atlas Mountains, then include a short break for taking pictures in the panoramic Ziz Valley before getting to the desert in the afternoon. Enjoy your lunch, and go on a camel ride experience while enjoying the breathtaking views of the sunset.

Arrive in our luxury desert camp, where you will be served dinner followed by a session of music before having a relaxing sleep in your ensuite tent.

Day4: Merzouga Desert - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley

Early wake up in the morning, climb the sand dune and spend the time enjoying the panoramic view of the sunrise. After breakfast and after taking a refreshing shower, we will resume our journey to the Dades Valley driving through Erfoud, which is known for the fossil factories and dates. Stretch your legs in the impressive Todra Gorge before getting to the Dades Valley in the late afternoon where we will spend our fourth night.


  • Overnight accommodation in Riad Tazawa, Riad Babylon, or similar including dinner & breakfast.
Day5: Dades Valley - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in the Dades Valley, we will resume our journey to Marrakech driving the valley of Roses where we may include a short break to learn about their products. Cross the city of Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) with its Atlas Film Studios that has turned the region into one of the most prefered setting among film producers in the world.

Have a guided walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou village that is comprised of numerous Kasbahs (fortresses) with four towers, small windows and doors. It has a strategic postion in the former caravan route that used to connect Marrakech with the Sahara desert and the Ati-Atlas Mountains.

We will then drive through the spectacular high-Atlas Mountains before reaching Marrakech in the evening marking the end of our 5-days Chefchaouen to Marrakech desert tour.
