Itinerary

Day1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate

Pick up from your accommodation in Marrakech or meet upon arrival in the airport, head to Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) with a nice drive through the spectacular High-Atlas Mountains. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains in most of the winter. After crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m), we will reach Ouarzazate where we will spend our first night.


  • Overnight accommodation in Dar Chamaa, Riad Boucheddour, or similar including dinner & breakfast.
Day2: Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Alnif

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in Ouarzazate, we will dive in the heart of the first portion of the desert by crossing the spectacular Anti-Atlas Mountains. You will surprisingly enjoy the geological formations of these mountains with its strange shapes. 

Once we get to the Agdz center, a surrounding mountains are filled with fossils, especially trilobites. In Alnif, we will visit a local quarry where we will learn about the such species in meticulous details along with the findings that were recorded in the region.

Day3: Alnif - Rissani - Merzouga

Today, you will resume our 8 days Morocco fossil hunting tour further south to Merzouga desert passing by a local quarry in Rissani that consists of Goniatites, which go back to the Middle Devonian period. Our day of exploration will follow up with a visit to a local museum hat exhibits a great selection of fossils, minerals and meteorites.

Arrive in the late afternoon to the majestic Merzouga desert and overnight in a nice Riad by the feet of the sand dunes.

Day4: Explore the Desert Area & Camel Trek

After having breakfast in your hotel, you’ll head to Taous, which is a the nearest military outpost to the Moroccan borders. This center along with Begaa are known for fish, crocodiles, sharks’ teeth & spinosaurus bones & teeth. Then, collect echinoderms in Boutariyt Site. Visit the Mifis mine, then back to the hotel near the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Have a camel ride journey to attend the majestic view of the sunset and spend the night in a luxury desert camp.

Day5: Merzouga - Erfoud - Tinghir - Dades Valley

Early wake up in the morning, we will invite you to climb the nearby sand dune from where you can enjoy one of the most impressive sunrise views you could encounter. After having a refreshing breakfast and taking a shower, we will continue on the track to the Dades Valley stopping in the Erfoud city, which is known for fossil factories.

Stretch your legs in the stunning Todra (Gorge) which is a high-cliff that keeps attracting mountain climbers and nature lovers.


 

  • Overnight accommodation in Riad Tazawa, or similar including dinner & breakfast.
Day6: Dades Valley - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad Dades Valley, we will head to Marrakech passing by the lush valley of roses where we may want to include a short break as a way to learn about the different products such as rose-water, perfumes, saops, lotions, and much more.

We will have a guided tour of the dramatic and UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou, which was an important commercial center in the former caravan route that used to link Marrakech with the Sahara. After lunch, we will cross the Atlas Mountains before getting to Marrakech in the evening.

Day7: Guided Tour of Marrakech

Today, we will spend the day exploring the best attractions of Marrakech with a local tour guide who knows the city like the back of his/her hand. We will initially drive through the Ville Nouvelle that was built by the French when Morocco was a French Protectorate from 1912-1956. Visit the botanical gardens of Majorelle, then head to Medina where we will start our guided walking tour from the famous Koutoubia Mosque.

Visit the 15th century Saadian tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Souks that are organized into sections before ending our exploration of Marrakech by the Jemaa el-Fna Square (the focal point of Marrakech). The Square turns in the evening into an arena filled with musicians, magicians, storytellers…

Day8: Marrakech to Airport

After having breakfast in your Riad, depending on your flights’ schedule, we will have a transfer to the airport of your departure either Marrakech or Casablanca hoping you had a great time with us.
